An Incredibly Rare James 2nd Flintlock Carbine by R. Brooke. Circa 1685. With sighted octagonal to round slightly swamped barrel, stamped at the breech with ‘Crowned IR’ mark and various other ordnance marks, a shield and two other marks, plain pang stamped with an Ordnance mark, rounded ‘banana’ lock engraved with a crowned ‘J2R’ cypher beneath the pan and signed on a ribbon across the tail, full-stocked in walnut (with slither repairs to both sides of the stock, see photographs) with brass butt plate nailed into position, steel trigger guard and turned ramrod pipes.

Appointed Gunmaker in Ordinary to Charles II, 1670, Maker of the Kings Guns within the Tower of London & Elsewhere, 1683. Died and will produced 1689. Business continued by widow Mary.
