An English Breastplate, 17th Century
Of heavy form with low medial ridge drawn out to a blunt point above a short flange at the base, turned neck and arms with incised line borders, the neck struck with armourers marks of Richard Rathbone or Richard Ray and Solomon Sibthorp and what I believe to be a Crowned A, retaining mushroom studs for shoulder straps. Some evidence of white emulsion to the back, suggesting it has been on a wall for a while.
