A Small Over and Under Pistol by W. Mills
With octagonal sighted barrels, signed in full along the top of the barrel, ‘W. MILLS IMPROV NO. 120 HOLBORN LONDON’ and decorated with a geometric band at the muzzle, (small area of pitting at top corner of barrel) stamped beneath with London proofs and ‘748’, profusely engraved box-lock action and cocks, fitted with sliding safety catches, chequered swelling butt, with engraved white metal butt cap with concealed ramrod with worm.

William Apprentice to William Parker, 1797. Gunmaker, 59 Judd Street, Brunswick Sq., 1821; 120 High Holborn, 1822-43. Factory at 1 Kings Street. Trade label claimed gunmaker to Queen Victoria. Made guns with superimposed charges on Jacob Mould’s pat.; revolvers on E.H. Colliers pat., c. 1830-5. Died 1837. Business continued by son, William Frederick, under father’s name, and as W. Mills & Son. Gunmaker to Ordnance, 1836-9; East India Co., 1836-43. Bankrupt, 1843.
