A Scarce Pattern 1842 Lancers Pistol
A Rare 11 Bore Percussion 1842 Pattern Lancers Pistol, Dated 1845. With round tapering barrel, stamped with numerous Ordnance inspection marks, with plain tang, dated border engraved flat lock with ‘V-R’ crowned above ‘TOWER’ figured full stock stamped with inspectors marks and ‘Sold out of Service’ opposed arrows, regulation brass mounts including butt-cap stamped ‘16th L’ over ‘B + 6’ brass trigger guard and single ramrod pipe, captive steel ramrod.
Notes:
The pistol is inscribed to the 16th Lancers and dated 1845. Early 1846 was the battle of Aliwal where the Lancers distinguished themselves. They won Battle Honours and it is this battle above all others which they celebrate. The pistol comes with a book on the 16th Lancers which has a chapter on Aliwal.
