A Long Silver Mounted Irish Duelling Pistol
With re-browned swamped octagonal sighted barrel, engraved ‘HALL & POWELL DUBLIN’ (engraving refreshed) fitted with a rear sight at the rear and with gold touch-hole, border engraved tang decorated with flower heads, stepped bevelled lock, signed ‘HALL & POWELL’ swan-neck lock decorated with foliage, full-stocked in walnut cut with a band of chequering at the grip, chunky silver mounts, comprising trigger guard, stated with Irish hall-marks, decorated with a urn surrounded by a wreath on the bow and acorn finial, turned ramrod pipes, with original loading rod.
Notes:
The mark in the silver above the Dublin Hallmarks appears to be ‘TJ’ (TI) Thomas Jones, the main, if not the only, supplier of silver furniture to the Dubln gun trade in the late 18th Century.
