A Flintlock Blunderbuss by Wilkinson of London. With round three-staged barrel, swelling at the muzzle, stamped at the breech with London proofs and barrel smiths mark for Joseph Heylin, plain steel tang, stepped, bevelled lock signed ‘WILKINSON’ with replacement cock (probably a working life replacement) full-stocked in walnut, cut with a band of chequering a the wrist, foliate engraved brass mounts comprising butt cap, side plate decorated with flowers, trigger guard decorated with a flower head on the bow and a large acorn finial, and turned ramrod pipes, brass tipped ramrod with worm.
James 1 Foreman of Henry Nock, acted as his surety, 1800. Successor and son-in-law to Henry Nock, appointed Gunmaker-in-Ordinary to George III, 1805. Gunmaker, 17 Ludgate Hill, 1806-17. Became James & Son. Contractor to East India Company., 1805-39. At Brompton Square, Kensington. Died 1848 (aged 90).
