A Superb Pair of Silver Inlaid Pistols by J. Lang of London. With turn-off octagonal barrels, decorated with geometric bands at the muzzles, and engraved, ‘HAYMARKET LONDON’ along the top-flats, and numbered ‘1’ and ‘2’ respectively beneath, stamped with London proofs. Border engraved box-lock action, profusely engraved with scrolling foliage throughout and signed ‘J. LANG’ on ovals to the left, fitted with sliding safety catches, border engraved dolphin headed cocks, fold down triggers, swelling walnut butts inlaid over both sides with scrolling wire scrolls issuing from a from silver flower heads, with further engraved flower heads and leaves, profusely engraved silver butt caps, decorated with flower heads. In lovely crisp condition overall.

Became Joseph Lang & Sons, eventually amalgamating with Stephen Grant, Exhibited 4 and 6 barrel revolvers, Great Exhibition, 1851. Popularised the pin-fire breechloader. Died 1869.
