An Ordnance Shortened Sea Service Pistol. With plain bright barrel stamped with inspection marks and Tower proofs, plain barrel tang, flat border engraved lock with ‘GR’ crowned and ‘TOWER’ across the tail, struck below the pan with a crowned inspection mark, ring necked cock, full stocked with raised apron, regulation brass mounts, iron belt hook and steel ramrod. The pistol has a layer of varnish over all of the metal parts.
1801/16 A shortened and modified P/1801. The barrel was cut to 9 inches, and the forestock and belt hook shortened in proportion; a steel rammer was fitted, and a tailpipe was inlet, which includes an internal rod-retaining spring.
