A Flintlock General Post Office Pistol, by James Wilkinson, London, Circa 1800. Of light dragoon form, with slightly swamped brass barrel, signed flat bevelled lock, varnished figured walnut stock full stock (some cracks commensurate with age) regulation brass mounts comprising pommel engraved ‘G/PO’ and original brass tipped ramrod, London proof marks. The pistol comes complete with a custom made storage box.

WILKINSON

James 1 Foreman of Henry Nock, acted as his surety, 1800. Successor and son-in-law to Henry Nock, appointed Gunmaker-in-Ordinary to George III, 1805. Gunmaker, 17 Ludgate Hill, 1806-17. Became James & Son. Contractor to East India Company., 1805-39. At Brompton Square, Kensington. Died 1848 (aged 90). 

James & Son Gunmakers to His Majesty, the Hon East India Company & The King & Prince Royal of Persia, 17 Ludgate Hill, 1819-28; 27 Pall Mall, 1829-52; 4 St. James’s Square., 1839; 18 St. Mary Axe, 1850-2. Became Wilkinson & Son and later Wilkinson Sword.
