An English Rapier, 17th Century

An English Cup Hilted Rapier, 17th Century. With tapering slender blade of flattened oval section, cut with a short deep fuller on both sides and stamped with the blade smiths name, ‘ANDREA XXX’ iron hilt comprising fluted cup-hit, recurving quillions, linked by scrolled side-bars to the knuckle-guard, faceted round pommel, with wire bound grip with unusual swelling mid-section.
