A Percussion Breech Loading Westley Richards Patent Monkey Tail Pistol. With russet barrel stamped ‘Whitworth Patent’ along the top in front of the serial numbered breech-block stamped with Birmingham proofs, hinged breech lever stamped ‘Westley Richards Patent’ signed flat lock dated within a triangle on the tail, figured three-quarter stock, regulation brass mounts including butt-cap with lanyard ring.

"The pistol was made for the Portuguese government and issued to the 2nd Regiment of Lancers F Troop No. 11.
One of 1000 pistols supplied to Portugal from 1867. Supplied in two models, this one with a ramrod and a second model without a ramrod. Lanyard and sling rings also vary in size. This pistol having a smaller ring”.
