A Superb Pair of Silver Mounted Flintlock Holster Pistols by Ransford of Dublin. With two-stage swamped barrels, inscribed 'Dublin' over the breeches within a linear frame and struck with the barrelsmith's mark, the letters 'MR' beneath a coronet and London proof marks, gold-lined vents, engraved grooved breech tangs decorated with foliage, rounded locks signed 'Ransford' in block capitals, pans with water drains (one cock repaired), full walnut stocks carved with mouldings over the fore-ends and leaves behind the rear ramrod-pipes and tangs, full silver mounts struck with Dublin marks cast and chased in low relief, comprising openwork side-plates decorated with foliage, trigger-guards with foliate terminals and expanded flower-heads on the bows, spurred pommels engraved with elaborate trophies-of-arms and fitted with grotesque mask caps, escutcheons engraved with the owner's crest, a dexter arm in armour embowed, holding in the hand a sword, and a pair of ramrods each decorated en suite with the trigger-guards, and horn-tipped wooden ramrods, one with its original iron worm.
