A Flintlock Duelling Pistol by D.Egg, London. With sighted octagonal barrel, signed in gold, ‘D.EGG LONDON’ on the top flat and fitted with rear-sight towards the breech, double gold line, foliate engraved tang and screw, signed bevelled lock with sliding safety, the tail of the lock decorated with stands of arms, full-stocked in walnut and cut with characteristic chequering at the grip, horn fore-end, engraved steel mounts comprising elaborately engraved butt cap, trigger guard with stands of arms on the bow, turned ramrod-rod pipes, with horn-tipped ramrod. In completely uncleaned condition, barrel retaining traces of original browning. (Small repairs to the woodwork by the lock and muzzle).

Son of Leonz Egg, gunmaker, Switzerland. Born 1748, baptised Urs Christian. After a short stay in Paris, came to London and worked for John Twigg, 1772. Granted denization in 1791. Gunmaker & Sword Cutler. Became gunmaker to George IV & Duke of York. Renowned for his fine workmanship.
