An Exceptional Pair of Percussion Turn Over Pistols by W.F. Mills of London. With round case-hardened turn-off barrels decorated with a band around the muzzles, line engraved breeches decorated with sprays of foliage and stamped with London proofs, signed border engraved box-lock actions decorated with foliate scrollwork on each side, engraved dolphin hammers and thumb piece safety catches, blued folding triggers, with chequered rounded butts with foliate engraved butt-caps with traps, round silver escutcheons both bearing the crest of the original owner: in their original lined and fitted pistol box with all accessories including bullet mould, barrel key, cap tin etc, the lid with makers label, the exterior of the box with brass escutcheon engraved with owners crest.
Notes:
This set retains almost all of its original finish. Unusual to find in such fine condition.

Williams 3 Apprentice to William Parker, 1797. Gunmaker, 59 Judd Street., Brunswick Square., 1821; 120 High Holborn, 1822-43. Factory at 1 King Street. Trade label claimed gunmaker to Queen Victoria. Made guns with superimposed charges on Jacob Mould's Pat.; revolvers of E.H. Colliers patent., Circa1830-5. Died 1837. Business continued by son, William Frederick, under father's name, and as W. Mills & Son. Gunmaker to Ordnance, 1836-9; East India Co., 1836-43. Bankrupt, 1843.
