A Smiths Patent Breech Loading Percussion Carbine, Circa 1861-65. With blued two-stage sighted barrel retained by a single barrel band and a spring catch extending back over the breech, steel action stamped on the left side, ‘Address Poultney & Trimble, Baltimore, U.S.A., Sith’s Patent June 23. 1857, and, Manufactured By Am N. M Ch N. Wks. Springfield Mass., figured butt and fore-end (some bumps and splits commensurate with age) steel mounts, barrel release button in front of the trigger. In used condition overall.
