A Flintlock Holster Pistol by Bennett of London, with round, slightly swamped barrel, stamped with London proofs and barrel smiths mark towards the breech, line engraved tang, signed domed lock, with sliding safety catch, full-stocked in walnut, with raised floral apron around the tang, with tutaneg mounts comprising; pierced side-plate, long-eared butt csp engraved with scrolling foliage, trigger guard engraved with a spray of foliage on the bow and stylised acanthus leaf finial, engraved ramrod pipes with original wooden ramrod.

John, Apprentice to father, John Bennett, Cit & Cutler, 1758; free of Cutlers Co., 1765. Elected Master, 1779. John Bennett the Elder was a sword cutler and silver-hilt maker, who registered his mark as a small-worker with Goldsmiths Co. 1761.
Appears to have worked first with his father at 67 Threadneedle St., then as Bennett & Ralph, Sword Cutlers, Goldsmiths & Jewellers, at the same address, 1778-81; finally on his own as Sword Cutler & Gunmaker, 1781-1803.
