A Cased Pair of Tap Action Pistols by Gill of London. With round turn-off barrels numbered ‘1’ ‘2’ and ‘3’ ‘4’ stamped with London proofs at the breech, border engraved box-lock actions beautifully decorated with foliage and stands of arms, signed ‘GILL’ within ovals to the left hand side, fitted with sliding safety catches that also lock the pans, cocks decorated en suite (one a working life replacement - safety catch housing also absent) slab sided walnut butts with vacant oval escutcheons: in an associated lined and fitted pistol box, with all accessories including bullet mould, powder flask, turn screw etc.

Thomas. File and saw maker. Birmingham, from 1744. Made springs for Miller’s flying machine c. 1783. Became contractor to Ordnance for swords, firearms and ironmongery. Addresses in London: 11 Charing Cross, 1783-4; 22 Norfolk Street, Strand 1799-1800. Died 1801.
