A Cased Pair of Double Barrel Irish Pistols

A pair of Irish double barrelled percussion travelling pistols, by Bowls of Cork, With re-browned twist barrels signed on the top rib "Bowls, Cork" in old English script, the breeches re-blued and with two gold lines, with signed scroll engraved back action locks and hammers, walnut full-stocks with chequered butts, scroll engraved re-blued steel mounts, small engraved silver butt caps, oval silver escutcheon engraved with unicorn's head, motto "Virtute et Numine" over initials (indistinct) and brass tipped ebony ramrods. (part of one fore end replaced), in their refitted and relined oak case with circular escutcheon and a trade label of Wilkinson & Sons, Pall Mall, London, containing a 36 bore steel ball mould, brass mounted loading rod, Dixon powder flask (no spring), nipple key, turn-screw, pewter oil bottle, a cap tin, and key to the case.
