1796 Light Cavalry Sabre By Woolley & Deakin
This is a very fine example of the popular 1796 light cavalry sabre, 94cm overall with a curved single edged, fullered 82cm blade engraved along the spine Woolley & Deakin’s improved steel.
Iron P shaped stirrup hilt with smaller half oval langets that are characteristic of this manufacturer. Ribbed black leather covered grip in its original iron scabbard.
Interestingly the sabre has no Government inspection or regimental marks and has many features associated with an Officer’s sword but it also has a plain leather covered grip. These features point to the sabre being most likely a private purchase for a gentleman trooper of the yeomanry cavalry.
